Garden ornament. Late C19. Glazed terracotta plaque set in an
artificial stone mound. Plaque approx 1m high, a Classical
female winged figure in high relief, one foot balanced on a
crowned winged mask, hands raised and supporting a vase with
grotesque mask and flowers. Tile border has birds and fruit in
shallow relief. Shades of blue, brown, green, the plaque
appears to have been fired in one piece and is one of a pair
(qv). Now incorporated into a hedge, the mound is overgrown
with ivy.
Probably a product of the Burmantofts factory and set here
when the park was established c1897.
