Pair of houses with railings. 1831-39, altered C20. Red/brown
brick, Flemish bond, rubbed brick details, slate roof.
Each house of 3 storeys over basement and 3 windows wide with
entrance right. Steps up to doors with fanlight in wooden
surround; keyed arch with imposts. Sash and casement windows,
replaced frames, stone sills and brick flat arches. Large
multiflue stack straddles ridge centre. Rear: No.3 (left)
retains original stair window with glazing bars and
semicircular bay window with three 16-pane sashes to ground
floor, a good example of the character of all the houses in
the row (OS map 1847).
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: railings: wrought-iron, enclosing
basement and flank steps, bud finials.
Part of the 2nd stage of the development of Finsbury Square as
marked on Fowler's map (1831), with oval garden to front, the
S terrace never built.
