Blue Bell Public House

Public house. Late C19, remodelled 1904, by Hedley J Price of
Nottingham, altered mid and late C20. Red brick, with faience
fronts and slate roofs with various gable stacks. Baroque
Revival style front to Upper Parliament Street.
3 storeys plus attics; 3 bays. Green glazed faience shopfront
with foliage pilasters. Central doorway with overlight and
shell canopy, flanked by segment-arched cross mullioned
windows. Upper floors, brown glazed, are divided by rusticated
half-columns in 3 orders. First floor has a blank centre with
a bracket carrying a dummy bell. On each side, a canted oriel
window with bracket and crest, and ogee headed lights with
transoms. Above again, a single window flanked by 3-light
cross mullioned windows, all with segment heads and voussoirs.
Attics, above the main cornice, have a broken segmental
pediment with finial, flanked by a parapet. Central Venetian
window with keystones, flanked by single windows, all
composite sashes.
Rear elevation to Forman Street, 3 storeys, 8 window range,
has modillion cornice. Green and blue glazed pubfront with
cross mullioned windows. Above, regular courses of composite
sashes.
INTERIOR mainly refitted late C20. Central bar, early C20, has
panelled wainscotting and bow fronted bar, and cross beam
ceiling with central skylight.
