Pair of houses with service wing. Part of a row of 6 pairs
connected by single storey links, now garages. 1827-1833, with
mid C20 alterations. Probably designed by PF Robinson and
built by William Patterson for the fourth Duke of Newcastle.
Stucco, with slate roof and coped gables. 4 plain side wall
stacks.
Plinth, eaves band, coped parapet. Windows are glazing bar
sashes, with moulded surrounds, cornices to the ground floor,
and bracketed sills above. 2 storeys plus basement and
garrets; 4:2 windows.
In the centre, a projecting double porch with cornice and
parapet, with 2 fielded 6-panel doors flanked by pilasters.
Each return has a round-arched window. On each side, a single
sash. Above, 4 smaller sashes.
Service wing, to right, set back, has a rusticated ground
floor with C20 door, and above, 2 small sashes, narrower than
those of the house.
This building is part of an early scheme by the Duke of
Newcastle to develop the Castle Park.
