Farmhouse. C17, enlarged in C18; altered. Red and brown brick,
some internal timber-framing; slate roof. H-plan formed by a
single-unit hall range with short 2-unit crosswings. Mostly 2
storeys, but with cellar to north wing and attic to south
wing; 1:1:1 windows. The centre range has a square-headed
doorway with moulded wooden jambs, flat-arched head, and
studded plank door with strap hinges and moulded wooden
pull-handle, flanked by single-light windows (probably C20
insertions), and at 1st floor a segmental-headed 2-light
casement window. The gable of the left (south) wing has stone
quoins to the base of the wall, segmental-headed 3-light
casements at ground and 1st floor (flanked by vertical joints
of former mullioned windows), and a 2-light casement to the
attic with flat-arched head. The right-hand (north) wing has
similar casements at ground and 1st floors, and a side-wall
chimney with water-tabling. Rear: south wing projects and has
lean-to extensions in the angle and to the gable wall; various
casement windows. Interior: north wing is timber-framed, the
posts concealed at ground floor but visible at 1st floor, with
jowelled heads; dog-legged splat-baluster staircase. Forms
group with barn to south (q.v.).
