School and attached school masters house. 1876 with late C20
alterations. Coursed, rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and
steeply pitched roofs with coped gables, kneelers and finials. 4
reduced stacks. Chamfered plinth and quoins. Gothic Revival style.
L-plan. 2 storey. South Bradford Road facade, 11 windows arranged
1:1:4:3:2. Off-centre, projecting, 2 storey gabled porch with pointed
entrance arch with inner double doors and fanlight, above a datestone
and a single round headed window. To the left a gable with 3
casements and above a large pointed arch window with wheel tracery.
To the right a projecting 4 window wing with 4 round headed casements
and 4 casements above, between a panel inscribed "GIRLS AND INFANT
SCHOOL". To right again 3 windows with a single and 2 paired
casements to each floor. Beyond a projecting gabled wing with a C20
lean-to addition on the ground floor and above 2 large windows in
pointed surrounds each with 3 graduated lancets. West, Park Road
facade, 14 windows on sloping site. To the right a 9 window wing with
a doorway in the 8th bay, with overlight and moulded ashlar hood, all
the windows are 2-light mullion casements. To the left a projecting
porch with a pointed arch doorway, now a window, and above a panel
inscribed "BOYS". To the left a gable with a 3-light mullion casement
and pointed relieving arch. Then set back a pointed archway linking
the school to the former school masters house beyond. To the left a
pointed entrance arch with inner door and overlight. Beyond a further
gabled wing with a 3-light mullion window and above a similar 2-light
window. Attached boundary wall and gates. Boundary wall topped with
piers and ornate iron railings, partly replaced. The wall stretches
along Bradford Road and curves around the corner and up Park Road.
The Park Road section is stepped with 2 gateways with square chamfered
piers and pyramidal caps, plus a third gateway with scroll caps and
original cast iron gate.
