House, c1600. Timber-framed building refronted in mid C19 when the house was greatly
extended to the east in brick and tile-hanging. The later part of the house to the east is not
included in the listing. Timber-framed, underbuilt in C19 brick in Sussex bond, the first floor
tiled with mainly diamond point tiles but 5 courses of plain tiles to base. Tiled roof. Two
storeys; 2 windows. Two triple casements, the architraves C19 but the windows C20. On the
right hand side the former gabled weatherporch has been turned into a window. Side elevation
has gable with carved wooden bargeboards, one casement to attic, one to first floor and
doorcase with C19 wood and tiled weatherhood. Interior has central ground floor room with
spine beam with 2 inch chamfer with lambs tongue stops, large open fireplace with a smaller
later cambered headed fireplace inserted and part of wall frame visible. South ground floor room
has exposed ceiling beams of square section which could be medieval. North ground floor room
has an axial beam and C17 three plank door on pintle hinges. C19 staircase with square
balusters. First floor has exposed top of wall plate and axial beams. Another 3 plank door and
c1840 fireplace. Some wide floorboards. Original roof with original rafters of square section
which may be medieval, purlins and angled queen struts.
