Public House

Public house. C17, extended in circa C18, C19 and C20. Roughcast timber frame,
with brick additions. Steeply pitched plain tile roofs with gabled ends. Brick
axial and gable end stacks. 2-room plan with lobby entrance in front of central
axial stack with back-to-back fireplaces. In circa C18 a 1-roam plan addition was
built at the left (north) end and in circa mid C19 a long wing was built behind it.
C20 wing at rear of right hand end and C20 single storey entrances between the
two rear wings. The large bay at the right hand (south) end is also probably C20.
1 storey and attic; 2 storey rear wings. Asymmetrical front, left hand circa C18
addition has slightly higher eaves and C20 2 storey bay window. Original part on
right has C20 bay window at centre, with small casement on left and large gable
dormer above through eaves; small gabled dormer on right. All C20 casements and C20
shallow sashes to left and right or centre. Large single storey C20 bay on right
(south) gable end. At rear 2 storey C20 wing on left and long circa mid C19 wing on
right with C20 flat roof, 1-storey extension between.
Interior: Right hand room of original part has moulded wooden cornice, and room to
left (now central) has chamfered cross-beam with hollow stepped stops, stop
chamfered joists and large fireplace with raised lintel and rebuilt jambs. Rear
left wing has circa mid C19 chimneypiece and axial beam. First floor and roof space
not inspected.
