Lodge Cottage. c1880s. Red sandstone with bonded plain and fishscale red clay tile roof. Single storey. Irregular plan, basically cross sloped with octagonal room added in the lower lefthand angle. Deeply chamfered plinth with moulded top, continuous sill bond and eaves entablature with plain frieze and moulded cornice throughout. Street elevation has projecting central bay with advanced, gabled central section. This has paired round headed sash windows in colonnetted surrounds with incised spandrels, all set within deeply chamfered surround. Gable above is eared and has moulded copings and central panel with shield. To other side bays have similar round headed sashes in colonnetted surrounds with incised spandrels set within chamfered surrounds. To side of hipped roof to central bay is a large stack with triple oval-sectioned flues decorated with plaster and cornices. Beyond to right and slightly recessed is an open arcaded porch, with single keyed round arch to front and 3 to right return; central arch has stone steps up to it, righthand arch has round head sash within. Other elevations have similar round headed scales in colonnetted and chamfered surrounds, single windows to each side of octagonal room, paired sashes to rear gabled elevation and triple sashes to left return. Hipped roofs, pyramidal roof to octagonal room. Interior very simple. Formerly lodge to Croxteth Hall.
