Spreat Monument in Abney Park Cemetery

Monument to John Spreat (1795-1865) and his wife Ann Elizabeth (1798-1884). 1868-1872 by Alfred Waterhouse, carved by Farmer and Brindley. Stone.
A three-stage monument. A square plinth with clustered engaged corner columns inset with shields has a slightly smaller stage set on it over heavy sloping band and behind single corner columns with carved capitals. This stage with inscriptions to the Spreats on south and west faces. Dog tooth mouldings to frieze and cornice. Top stage a pyramidal cap with broken finial and some mouldings. John Spreat died at Highbury New Town and his monument was erected by his wife.
