SK 93 SE OLD SOMERBY BOURNE ROAD

5/49 The Old Farm House

II

Farm House, 1644 with C20 alterations; coursed rubble limestone with ashlar
quoins, pantile roof and catslide to rear, short stone ridge stack with moulded
top. Gable end to road, parlour and large hall with single storey outshot.
2 storey with garret garden front of 4 irregular bays. Off centre panelled
door with timber lintel flanked by sloping buttresses. Three 3-light C20
replacement stone mullion windows. Above two 3-light C20 stone mullion windows
and a single light. Gable end has plinth, ground floor 4 light C20 mullion
window, to 1st floor and garret C17 2 light cavetto mullion windows with
cornices. Interior has Stamford marble flagged floor, oak girder to hall,
chamfered and cyma stopped running full length of room carried by 2 modern
props. Below 1st floor gable window is set datestone inscribed in raised
numerals "1644" with a chalice carved in relief adjacent. Source:
