Yew Tree Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Early C18, altered C20. Red brick, Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys
twin-gabled front, double depth. Door to left of centre has overlight and later
brick arch; left gable (rebuilt c1950) has 3-light casement window to each floor
under gable decorated by 3 hearts formed from raised headers; right gable is
original brickwork with similar windows, the upper window set beneath original
hoodmould and 3 hearts as before. Lateral stacks, that on right cement-rendered and
now rising from lean-to addition. Rear: five C20 casements as front, that to
ground-floor left under original hoodmould which extends to cover blocked doorway on
right; other windows have traces of original hoodmoulds. To left of valley is a
small blocked window with arched head; to right is an intact brick-mullioned window
of 2 lights. Left return: rebuilt though lateral stack is old brickwork. Interior:
beamed ceilings visible in 3 ground-floor rooms; old oak door beneath stairs;
staircase has contemporary staircase with turned balusters, square newels and ball
finials; resisted panelling at top of stair; principal-rafter trusses. The
farmhouse is approached via Hand Lane.
