Farmhouse. Early C17, possibly with earlier origins; altered C19 and C20.
Rendered rubblestone; Roman tile roof. 3-cell plan with through passage,
added cell to right. 2 storeys, 5 1st floor windows.Garden front: added
porch to bay-2 doorway; late C20 glazed door to left bay, otherwise late C20
windows, respecting positions of original windows. Late C20 brick stacks to
ends and bridge between bays 2 and 3. Rear: projecting gabled bay on right
possibly C17/C18 in origin but heightened and with late C20 glazed door and
window above; added outshut to rest of main range with board door and late
C20 windows. Interior: main interest lies in the room to right of the
entrance passage which has large fireplace with chamfered timber lintel
supported on right side by monolithic jamb with chamfer terminating in half
pyramidal stop; also compartmented ceiling, the principal beams with broad
chamfers, the joists with scratch-moulded soffits. Left-hand room has
chamfered cross-beams with run-out stops, and inserted fireplace. 1st floor:
rear wall has 3 blocked single-light windows with splayed jambs, wide
floorboards, between the two original right-hand bays, partition wall has low
doorway (below tie beam) framed by posts with triangular cut tops giving
shouldered head. The only surviving original roof truss is at this point; it
has steeply-pitched principal rafters with seating for former trenched
purlins, tie-beam and slightly cambered collar.
