House. Mid C16 2 bay timber framed building of hall and service with lean to; c1600
new floor inserted to hall and lean to demolished and replaced by 2 storeyed parlour
bay; early C18 2 flued chimney stack replacing a c1600 chimney and Northern Wing and
lean to added mid C18 and later. Exterior mainly of painted brick but rendered to
rear. C20 tiled roof with 2 end brick chimney stacks. 1 to 2 storeys. 3 windows,
mainly C20 casements. Rear elevation has 3 windows, including pedimented dormer
with tile hanging and 3 light canted bay to ground floor. Brick diagonal buttress.
Interior: earliest part retains timbers of the C16 frame, particularly in the
northern wall, including jowelled wall posts, tension braces, mid-rail, close-set
studs, wall plates, steeply-cambered tie-beam between bays, and rafters. Rear wall
plate has mortices in soffit from diamond-set mullions of former window. Original
wavy joists in left bay. Central (former right-hand) bay has C1600 spine-beam with
run out stops to chamfer and joists, and deeply chamfered fireplace bressumer. C18
board doors.

Brick diagonal buttress. Interior has exposed beams of C1600 to lounge, 1st floor
has Jowled parts and curved tension braces. (See Rape of Hastings Architectural
