- west of Halsteads
and lean-to at rear
GV II
Former cottage, later converted to stables, now store. Early C18 with C19
alterations. Slobbered rubble, stone dressings, stone slate roof. 2 cell plan.
2 storeys, double fronted. Central entrance has moulded surround, C19 plank
stable door. Ground floor flanking 2-light double chamfered mullioned windows,
sashes without glazing bars. Probably 2 similar upper floor windows, now obscured
by vegetation. At rear of this range is mid-C19 lean-to incorporating reused
late c17 entrance with moulded surround and decorated lintel inscribed:
" AB ALIO SPERES
ALTERI QUOD FECERIS
16 AF 70"
AF refers to the Foxcroft family. This entrance surround was probably removed
from Halsteads (qv) during the early C19 alterations.
