railings at east end of
Oakham Cemetery

GV II

Front boundary wall with end piers and railings. Probably original to
the 1860 scheme by Pearson Bellamy and J Spence Hardy of Lincoln.
Piers and plinth wall of ironstone with pale ashlar limestone
dressings; cast-iron railings and standards. In 2 articulated sections
flanking the Cemetery Lodge (q.v.): 11 panels of railings to left and
10 to right. Plinth wall has deeply-chamfered copings. Broad end piers
with single, offset buttress and brattished copings. Railings: cusped
tracery beneath a finialled mid-rail; top rail with spearhead spikes;
intermediate bars with fleur de lys. Linking each panel of railings
are square, open-work standards with tracery, brattished caps and 3-
dimensional fleur de lys finials.
