Farmhouse . Probably C16, remodelled in C17/18, extended in circa C18
and again in C20. Plastered timber frame and clay lump. Steeply
pitched pantile roof with barge-boards to gable ends. Brick axial
stack to right of centre. 3-bay main range with stack inserted in
C17/C18 in central bay to heat right hand (north) room and form lobby
entry at front. In circa C18 a 2-storey 1-room plan extension was
built at left (south) end and in C20 a wing was added to the rear of
the right hand end. 2 storeys 1:3 window east front, 3 window range
to right is original house with C20 gabled porch at centre. C20 2-
light casements with glazing bars. Left hand 1 window range has lower
pitched roof. At rear small outshut behind right hand (south)
extension and C20 outshut in angle with large rear wing to left; C20
casements with glazing bars. Interior: Timber-frame exposed
internally. Right hand (north) room has cross-beam between north and
centre bays against stack and on jowled posts; it is chamfered on both
sides and has hollow step stops; relatively narrow fireplace with
unchamfered timber lintel. Left (south) room of original range has
2 concealed cross-beams. Chambers in left and right bays and landing
in centre bay have exposed timber-framing with jowled wall posts and
curved tension braces, the right hand (N) chamber has blocked diamond
mullion window in rear wall. In centre chamber. the two central queen- -
post trusses are exposed and have braces (and mortices for mi'ssing
braces) to the collars and purlins in the roof space; clasped purlins
and some of the common rafters survive.
