Farmhouse now house. C17, early C18 with alterations and additions late C18
for Major Rooke, plus C20 alterations. Sandstone with ashlar dressings, plus
slate hipped and gabled roofs with 4 castellated stacks and Gothick finials.
Battlemented parapet. Quoins. Double range plan. 2 storey 5 bay front.
Off-centre door in 4-centred arched door surround and Gothick style projecting
porch supported on cluster columns with a battlemented parapet and Gothick
finials. To the left a 3 light shallow canted bay window with casements.
To the right a larger C20 bay window with 4 metal casements and central double
glazed doors, topped by battlements. Beyond to the right a C17 3 light
chamfered mullion window. Above 5 late C18 pointed casements, each of 2
lights with Y-tracery and plain ashlar surrounds. West front has 2 bays, with
2, 2 light casements and above 2 late C18 pointed casements each of 2 lights
with Y-tracery and plain ashlar surrounds. Rear facade has very irregular
fenestration, with 2 large early C18 glazing bar sash windows with ashlar
shouldered surrounds and keystones plus 3 late C18 flush mullion casement
windows. Interior south-east ground floor room has good quality early C18
stone fireplace decorated with a fluted keystone, 2 similar fireplaces
upstairs. A large stone Gothick fireplace with ogee top, and a smaller Gothic
fireplace also survive. Most doors are early C18 2 panel doors with
L-hinges. Various beams mostly boxed in but certainly early C18. Most
windows have panelled shutters. The staircase is probably late C17, though it
has been boxed in with C20 panelling.
