Originally one house, now 2 shops with rooms above each. 2 storeys. 3 windows.
Tiled roof. This is a timber framod building of which the south front facing
the greet is entirely modern, and has curved tiles on the lst floor and
a shop front below. A passage (known as The Needles) separates the building
from the Standard Inn to the west. The timber framing of the original C16
house is visible in this passage, in the west wall of the house. At the
north west corner, the eaves overhang to nearly the whole width of the passage,
but at the street end tile passage has been cut out of the house itself leaving
only a boarded partition as the west wall of the house on the ground floor.
The north front has a tile hung gable. The VCH says that No 39 contains C16
panelling and a Cl7 staircase and both houses have ceiling beams and open
fireplaces.

Nos 34 to 40 (consec) & The Standard Inn form a group.
