Bank. Dated 1884. Flemish bond red brick with stucco and
terracotta dressings. Hipped slate roof with lead-clad finial and
gables. Brick axial stacks with integral diagonally-set shafts.
Plan: Rectangular plan on corner site with entrance on corner.
Exterior: 3 storeys and attic. 2:1:2 bay south front and 2-bay
west end with moulded terracotta triangular gables, the tympana
richly decorated with terracotta floral design and wreath around
a small bullseye. The bays below the gables and stucco string-
courses break forward. 2-light mullion windows, ground and first
floor with transoms, 2nd floor with 4-centred arch lights; the
first floor with moulded brick volutes to the architraves and
terracotta apron panel below. On the corner the entrance has
fluted half columns, round arch and polygonal oriel turret above
on moulded corbel with frieze of shields, mullion windows with
stained glass, moulded strings and cornice, pierced balustrade
with ball finials and slate spire. Interior: Late C20 partitions
and suspended ceiling in banking hall. Staircase with moulded
balusters and wreathed handrail.
