Early Cl5. Originally one property which extended behind frontage to form
Great Porch courtyard - the former wings at rear were demolished in 1954.
2 storeys timber frame. Cl9 brick front to Nos 6 and 7. No 8 has gable with
bargeboards. lst floor with joist ends of former overhang and medieval exposed
timber framing, that in gable with slightly curved bracing. 1 sash window
to each floor, glazing bars intact and a small 3 light wooden frame window
with cusped lights to lst floor. Later brick infilling. Plain door. Between
Nos 7 and 8 the archway of Great Porch with a moulded beam over and carved
flowers. Exposed timber framing in gabled rear elevation of No 6. Impressive
arch braced roof framework with massive collar beams and curved wind braces
remains intact over the full length of the building. 4 of the original 6
carved heads decorating the wall plates survive though one is mutilated.
Between the roof timbers are paintings on plaster, each of 8 sections with
3 large crudely painted roses, interspersed with green leaves. No 8 has panelling
to the ground floor front room. Possible ecclesiastical origin.
Nos 6 to 15 (consec) form a group.
