C18. 3 storeys. An elaborate front with rusticated ground floor walling faced
with Doric screen, probably later in date, of 6 free-standing columns supporting
entablature built on to main wall. Chamfered quoins to upper part. Slightly
projecting central bay. Moulded and bracketed cornice with central pediment.
Parapet with moulded coping. Slate roof. Upper part has flanking 2-storey
angular bays, resting on ground floor order. The lst floor windows of bays,
Palladian type with entablature to side lights, architrave and keystone to centre
lights. Single central 2nd floor window with architrave and keystone. Central
niche on 1st floor (later insertion in former window ?) in architrave with rusticat
blocks and triple keystone and projecting bracketed cill. Niche has good statue
of Aesculapius. On ground floor - 4 windows and central 5-panel door with upper
panel glazed. Good brass lion head knocker, cast iron foot scraper left hand.
No glazing bars to windows. One bay extension lft hand with 6-panel passage
door, flush type, architrave surround. One window over. Right hand ground
floor room has a good early C18 fireplace with carved ornament, and very unusual
enriched ceiling beam with interlaced curved ornament, enriched cornice moulding
to beam and ceiling. Good contemporary stair, turned balusters and moulded
handrail.
No 21 to 24 (consec) and The Black Swan Hotel form a group.
