in Quaker burial-ground

from the south wall

Headstone. Dated 1736. Gritstone. A single block approximately
50 centimetres high, straight sided with cambered top edge. The inscription
is deeply cut but weathered: "HERE / Lyeth interred the / Body of JOHN the
only / Son of JOSEPH and ELIZABETH DODSON / of KNARESBOROUGH / who departed
this / Life on the ?16 Day / of the 4th Month 1736 / In ye 12th Year of his
age." The word 'HERE' is inscribed decorative lettering set in a recessed
panel.
