4/167 Threshing barn on north side of
yard at Trebartha Barton
GV II*
Threshing barn. Circa mid C19. Stone rubble with granite dressings, partly slate
hung with rag slates on front. Rag slate roof with gable ends.
Plan: Rectangular plan with three shallow porches or midstryes projecting on front
to form an overall 'E' shaped plan. Infilling the space between the porches there
are 2 storey lean-to outshuts which are open-fronted on the ground floor. The ground
rises to rear providing direct access to the threshing floor and C20 sheds have been
built adjoining to rear. The machinery was originally powered by a water wheel (now
removed).
Exterior: Two storeys. Impressive symmetrical elevation fronting yard. Gabled
porches or midstreys in centre and to right and left with dressed granite quoins and
voussoirs; wide openings on ground floor and threshing doors above with C19 plank
doors flanked by narrow ventilation slits. Small roundels in the gables. Between
these projections are slate-hung lean-to outshuts. These outshuts open-fronted on
the ground floor and form shelters with mangers for the cattle, The open-fronts of
the shelters have segmental arches above ground floor with 3 windows on first floor.
C20 sheds to rear. Within the original sheds the rear elevation remains virtually
unaltered with wide opposing threshing doors.
Interior not inspected.
