1/99 The Black Dog

GV II

Inn. Late C17, C18 and C19. Dressed limestone, tiled roof, brick
stacks. L-plan. 2-storey, 3-window front. Central C20 door in
gabled porch, C20 casement to right, 3-light casement to left.
First floor has two 2-light and one 3-light recessed chamfered
mullioned windows. To left is projecting early C19 wing in English
bond brick, front has canted bay and 16-pane sash, return has 4-
pane sash and 6-panelled door with keystone, tiled roof. Left
return has 2-light and 1-light mullioned windows, single-storey
brewhouse has 16-pane sash and 3-light casement. Rear has C19
brick lean-to extension with slate roof, to right is C18 brewhouse,
now bar; stone with slate roof.
Interior has chamfered beams with stepped stops to front range,
open fireplace with chamfered stone jambs and chamfered lintel.
Rear brewhouse has beaded beams and stone open fireplace with
cambered stone lintel.
