House. Probably C18. Stone rubble with granite dressings. Slate hung above ground
floor on front. Rag slate roof with hipped end on left and gable end on right,
possibly with some early crested ridge tiles. Stone rubble, partly slate hung end
stack on right.
Plan: Two room single depth plan with ground sloping down to right. The entrance, to
left of centre, enters directly into the large right hand room which is heated by an
end stack. There is a small unheated room on left which was originally partitioned
off by a screen, (the screen now removed). A C20 stair has been inserted directly
opposite the entrance.
Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window front. Entrance to left of centre with
C19 door in C19 slate porch with hipped end. Small C19 1-light casement to left and
C19 or C20 2-light casement to right. First floor with similar fenestration with C19
or C20 1-light windows on left and 2-light casement on right. These windows have C20
timber shutters on the exterior. There are no extensions or outshuts and the side
walls are unpierced. There is a very small 1-light window on the rear elevation,
lighting and ventilating the smaller left hand room.
Interior: Slate flag floors. Slight chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops. The
fireplace has a probably roughly cut timber lintel which has been covered by a circa
C19 mantle shelf. Cloam oven with clay door. C20 open tread stair.
This house stands in an isolated position and remains unaltered and unspoilt. It is
unusual to find a house of this type plan without extensions and alterations.
