Circa 1820. Stoutly-built rectangular building of coursed sandstone with battered
walls. Narrow round-arched end entrance. History:
180 hp engine by Thomas Easton; installed in 1820 to pump water out of mine was the
most powerful on Tyneside and could move 1 1/2 m gallons a day.
