Lodge, now a house. c. 1872. Vernacular Revival style. By E.
W. Godwin for Earl Cowper. Brick with patterened tile hanging
and gabled, hipped and catslide plain tile roofs. Central
grouped ridge stack. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Irregular plan.
Windows are leaded casements, some with segmental heads. West
front has to left, 2 storey canted bay with battered plinth and
faceted conical roof with finial. Large multiple bay window on
each floor. To its right, catslide roof forming porch. To
right, battered buttress. South end has to right, 2 casements.
To right again, C20 single storey lean-to addition. Above, to
left, a casement. North end has 2 casements. Rear has casement
to left. To right, door flanked by single casements. Above,
large casement with catslide roof. This building is a detached
gate lodge to Beauvale House and is in itself a notable work of
E. W. Godwin.
