House. Late C18 with some C19 alterations. Flemish bond red brick, limestone
ashlar bands in the main block and decorative burnt headers in the kitchen
wing; brick stacks and chimneyshafts with some C19 chimneypots; peg-tile roof.

Plan: Large double depth plan house set back from and facing the road to the
north north west, say north. Basically a front and back room either side of a
wide central entrance hall and main staircase. Axial stacks between the front
and rear rooms both sides. The principal rooms are those to left, overlooking
the garden to east. In fact there are 3 rooms with the third projecting to
rear and heated by an inner side lateral stack. The front room is the biggest
room and was given a large canted bay in the mid C19. Service rooms to right
with lower kitchen block projecting to rear. It was rebuilt in the C19. It
has a 2-room plan with an axial stack and, next to the main block, a service
entrance and service stair.

2 storeys.

Exterior: Symmetrical 3-window front, all the openings have rubbed brick flat
arches. 12-pane sashes, the outer ones in tripartite sashes. Central doorway
up a couple of semi-circular steps and contains a 6-panel door, overlight with
radial glazing bars, panelled reveals, and timber doorcase with plain
pilasters and moulded entablature including a dentil frieze. Narrow bands of
limestone project at first floor level, at eaves level and from the coping of
the plain parapet. 4 parallel roofs from front to back and hipped both ends.
The right (service) side has a 2-window front in the same style as the front
with the kitchen block behind; first a 4-panel door then 2 16-pane sashes with
low segmental brick arches over and 8-pane sashes above. The garden front has
a 2:3-window front of large 12-pane sashes. The right hand 3-window section
is the C19 bay which was built to blend in with the rest of the house except
here the parapet has a moulded cornice. At the back a tall window lighting
the stair is an 18-pane (12/6) sash.

Interior: Contains C18 and C19 joinery detail including a geometric open
string stair with mahogany handrail and stick balusters.
