WHITEHAVEN CASTLE PARK
NX 9717 NE
9/86
Air shaft cap to former
railway tunnel at NGR
II
Air shaft cap to ventilate the Whitehaven & Furness Junction Railway, opened
1852 and running beneath the grounds of Whitehaven Castle. Red brick in English
bond with stone coping. Circular in plan. This shaft was the only one visible
