Farmhouse. 1835. Red brick in Flemish bond. 2-span hipped slate roof
with lead rolled hips and ridge and deep eaves. Brick axial stacks.
Double depth square plan with central staircase in entrance hall between
drawing room on left and dining room on right; service rooms at back,
the kitchen behind the dining room and a small 2-storey scullery wing
behind the kitchen. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window south front.
Later C19 or C20 4-pane sashes in original openings with flat rubbled
brick arches. Central doorway with original 6-poanel door, rectangular
overlight with glazing bars, panelled reveals and pilasters; the portico
with heavy entablature has rebuilt columns. 4-pane sashes on east and
west sides, east side has late bay window. Lower 2 storey wing at rear
has 16-pane sashes and C20 porch in right hand angle. Interior: Drawing
and dining rooms have moulded plaster cornices and C20 chimneypieces.
Most of the original joinery survives including open well stick baluster
staircase with moulded mahogany handrail wreathed over curtail panelled
doors; hatch from dining room to kitchen/servant's hall behind, back
stairs with stick balusters and turned newel, panelled window shutters
etc. Arched niche on landing. Some of the chamber chimneypieces
survive.
