House. C15. Timber framed and weatherboarded, painted brick ground floor
where original jetty is underbuilt. Red pantiled roofs, 2 gables to right with
dropped eaves between, single storey outshot to right. 3 red brick chimney
stacks. 2 storeys. 3 window range of vertically sliding sashes with glazed
margins. Moulded surrounds, pentice boards over. 2 panelled 2 light door,
moulded surround, moulded frieze and flat canopy on brackets. Interior
features include 3 ranges of early C15 heavy timber frame, chamfered segmental
pointed head doorway to first floor and part of a similar doorway visible to
ground floor. Restored inglenook fireplace. Sunk chamfered and roll moulded
bridging and ceiling joists. Run out chamfers to ground floor, showing
original jetty position. Jowled storey posts. Halved and bridled top plate
scarf. Halved arch bracing to roof over stairs. Roof structures of unsooted
finely moulded beams throughout including moulded ridge pole and side purlins,
king posts with solid arched braces and arched apex bracing. C A Hewett
suggests dating between 1443-1495, probably the earlier part of this date range
when making comparison with the Queen's House, Tower of London. RCHM 2.
