House
GV II
House. Early C19. Buff coloured brick and slate roof. Two storeys and
basement on plinth with rendered cornice and paired bracket eaves to
hipped roof. Paired central stack to front and to rear, joined by
arcaded bridging piece. Regular fenestration of 3 glazing bar sashes on
first floor, 2 on ground floor, and 2 basement openings, all with gauged
heads. The central window bay projects, with a panelled door with
rectangular fanlight in doubled pilaster surround with entablature, and
with flight of 2 steps. Recessed wing to left, with plat band supported
by pilaster arcading. The garden fronts are both relatively plain.
Interior: original early C19 fittings and stair survive, and main room
divided into two by means of wooden panelling raised up from the floor.
Vaulted cellars beneath and to rear of house. In detail and planning
there are similarities to Ripple Court (item 7/54), of about the same
date. Originally built as the Rectory.
