Channing Hall with shops below

GV II

Unitarian church hall, with shops below. Late C19, with C20
alterations. Ashlar. Roof not visible. Italianate style.
Plinth, first floor cornice, prominent dentilled eaves
cornice, open balustrade. 2 storeys; 5 bays articulated by
Ionic pilasters on each floor. 3 moulded round-arched recesses
with 2-light round-headed traceried windows with shafts and
metal glazing bars and transoms. On either side, a square
recess with a single square headed window and above it, a
round window with festoons. Ground floor has round-arched
arcade with recessed central main entrance with panelled
double door and fanlight. On either side, 4 recessed
shopfronts with large single pane shop windows and glazed
doors, 3 of them with their original fanlights missing.
INTERIOR is reputed to contain circular stair decorated with
glazed bricks, and hall with open timber roof.
