Pair of houses. 1840s. Red brick, colourwashed except to west
front of No.87. Slate roofs. 2 storeys; 2-window range. Each
house has a door plus one window bay. 6-panelled doors under
fanlights, the fanlight to No.86 with 6 vanes, the other
plain. No.86 with one recessed 6/6 unhorned sash to each
floor. No.87 with one late C20 top-hung casement to each
floor. Platband at first floor with an inscription to No.86:
`Capt. G.W. Manby F.R.S. (inventor of life saving apparatus)
lived in this house and died here in November 18th, 1854.'
First floor of No.87 with 2 nautical portholes. Dentilled
eaves cornice with dog-tooth decoration. Gabled roof with a
central flat. Stacks at divisions of property and a rebuilt
stack to south of No.86.
