Kersal Mount and adjoining service

House and service wing, now old people's home. c1870, with
late C20 additions. Rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and
hipped slate roofs with decorative ridge tiles and finials. 2
external side wall stacks and 2 ridge stacks, all coped.
EXTERIOR: plinth, flush ashlar bands, modillion eaves. 2
storeys; 3 window range. Square plan.
Entrance front has a central half-round ashlar oriel window
topped with a swept conical spire and finial. 3 plain sashes.
Projecting shouldered doorcase linked to the ornamented
bracket of the oriel, with enriched impost band and shafts.
Round-arched opening with half-glazed double door and plain
fanlight. To right, a plain sash, and below, a tall 3-light
stone mullioned window, both with projecting surrounds.
Garden front has a central canted 2-storey bay window with
hipped roof and 3 plain sashes on each floor. On either side,
a single plain sash and below, a double plain sash with a
stone mullion, all with stone surrounds.
INTERIOR has entrance hall with elliptical arched entrance
with double pilasters and inner door with stained glass
overlight and sidelights. Panelled ceiling with foliage frieze
and festoons. Elliptical arch to panelled stairwell, with
foliage frieze and cornice. Dogleg wooden staircase with
turned balusters.
