Crucible steel works with attached offices and workshops, now
a foundry. c1855 and c1860, restored 1989. Brick with ashlar
dressings and slate roofs with gable-end crucible stack, 6
flues, plus single ridge and gable stacks. Gutters with wooden
brackets.
Central office block, 2 storeys; 3 window range. Three 4 pane
sashes with segmental heads and label moulds. Below, to left,
2 similar windows, and to right, wooden doorcase with fluted
pilasters and cornice, and 6-panel door with blocked
overlight. To its right an elliptical arched carriage opening
with quoins, patterned voussoirs and keystone, and double
board doors.
Single storey crucible shop, to right, has rebuilt coped right
gable and rebuilt crucible stack with firebrick bands. 2 tall
round-headed barred windows with boarded fanlights and imposts
and keystones. At the rear, a round-arched doorway flanked by
similar windows.
Single storey workshop block, to left, has plinth and string
course. To right, two 6 pane casements with segmental heads
and label moulds. To left, cart opening with quoins and lintel
with voussoirs and keystone. Double board doors.
INTERIOR: crucible shop interior has iron shelf brackets on
the stack wall. Office interior has cantilevered stone dogleg
stair with ornamented cast-iron balusters.
