County court hall. Dated 1854, with mid and late C20
alterations. Ashlar with hipped slate roof and 2 coped stone
side wall stacks.
Plinth, rusticated ground floor and quoins, dentilled first
floor and eaves cornices, first floor sillband. 2 storeys plus
basement; 5 window range. Windows are margin light sashes.
First floor has windows with moulded surrounds and bracketed
cornices, the central one pedimented, arranged 1:3:1. In front
of the central window, Royal Arms in Coade stone. Arcaded
ground floor has heavy impost band and round arches with
rusticated heads and keystones. In the centre, 3 round-headed
windows. At each end, a slight projection with a round-arched
doorway with moulded 8-panel door and plain fanlight. Left
return has a pedimented blank above and a round-headed window
below. To left, at a lower level, a parapeted block with a
plain sash above and a round-headed window below. Basement has
to left a blocked door and to right, 3 square openings.
INTERIOR has cantilever open well stone stair with cast-iron
balustrade and ramped scrolled handrail. Court 3 has moulded
plaster wall panels and cornice, window cornices and crest
above bench.
