Magazine at infantry barracks. 1848-54. Coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings. Roof not Visible. Moulded eaves. EXTERIOR: Single storey, rectangular plan, with a lower storey projecting porch at either end; each with a single end window and a single side door. The main block has 2 rows of small vertically set rectangular openings. INTERIOR: Has 2 brick vaulted chambers and a curved cantilevered staircase. HISTORY: Magazines were more commonly included in artillery barracks but very few examples have survived. They are more common in the Ordnance yards such as Morice Yard, Plymouth and Priddy's Hard, Portsmouth(qqv). Part of a complete mid C19 barracks.
