Institute of Chemistry. 1913-14. By Sir JJ Burnet. Brown brick
with stone dressings. 3 storeys (4 to left of entrance), attic
and semi-basement. 7 windows with 3-window return to Russell
Square. Square-headed entrance in stone surround with open
segmental pediment and seated figure of Sir Joseph Priestley;
heavy panelled door. Square-headed, recessed sash windows,
those right of the entrance round-headed in shallow arched
recesses with keystones and linked by stone impost bands. Sash
above entrance round-headed with carved stone wreath in head.
1st floor windows to left of door with stone sill band and
balconies. 3rd floor stone sill band. Bracketed cornice and
parapet. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES:
attached cast-iron railings with urn finials to areas.
