LEATHERHEAD ROAD
Coal Duty Boundary Post outside the Star Public House
II
Coal Duty Boundary Post. Erected under the London Coal and Wine Duties Continuance Act of 1861. Cast iron. Square post, about 4 feet in height with chamfered edges, moulded pyramidal top and plinth. Inscribed "4 3? 25 VICT/CAP 42" with the City of London's Coat of Arms on the side facing the road. Probably cast by Henry Grissell at the Regent's Canal Ironworks, Eagle Wharf Road, Hoxton, but the inscription to the rear was partially buried at time of survey.
