Terrace of 14 houses and attached railings. Numbered right to
left, described left to right. c1830-50, shown as laid out and
several built on Merrett's Map of 1834. Stucco over brick with
concealed roofs, pinkish-brown brick party-wall stacks and
iron railings and balconies. Double-depth plan with side
hallways and 2-storey service ranges to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3 windows per house. Stucco detailing
includes continuous crowning frieze and cornice, low coped
parapet; first-floor band from Nos 61-71; architraves to
entrances to Nos 61-71; Nos 51-59 have full-height Doric
pilasters to party-wall. Houses are ramped downwards between
Nos 61 and 63. Windows: 6/6 and 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes
where original, the central first-floor window to each house
is blind; all in plain reveals and with sills. Entrances:
mainly 4-panel doors with sidelights and overlights and
6-raised-and-fielded-panel doors with fluted frieze and
overlights, some with glazing bars and margin-lights.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: mainly arrowhead railings to sides of
steps; some balustrades with X-motif. No.45 has ornate
balconette to ground floor; and to right return a first-floor
balcony with embellished rods.
