Boundary stone. Late C18, incorporating part of a possibly earlier marker. Square gritstone shaft, approx 1.25 metres high, with a crudely carved cross set into a socket in its upper face. The marker stands at the junction of the present parishes of Pilling, Cockerham and Winmarleigh, and of the former hundreds of Lonsdale and Amounderness.
HISTORY : Boundary crosses are referred to in medieval document, the Cockerham Chartulary of 1320 as means of denoting the boundaries of adjacent monastic estates.
This boundary stone is also in the 9th list for the district of Wyre in the parishes of Pilling and Winmarleigh.
