Library. 1905, by John P. Osborne. Red brick in Flemish bond, with stone dressings.. Slate roof with stone coped gable ends. Integral brick end stack with cornice. PLAN: Central entrance vestibule with imperial stairs over the porch, giving access to the libraries. Freestyle. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3:3:3 bay front. Slightly advanced gables to left and right with canted stone 2-storey bays with pilastered mullions and moulded transoms and cills; narrow flanking bays break forward with similarly pilastered windows; centre recessed, the stone doorway with flanking pilasters and coved round arch with large keystone rising into large stone frieze above with inscription: FREE LIBRARY in big letters, over which there is a glazed 6-bay colonnade with a modillion cornice above, all in stone. Leaded pane windows and panelled and glazed double doors. INTERIOR: Entrance vestibule has glazed and panelled screen and double doors with Art Nouveau stained glass. Imperial staircase over entrance with square newels with ball finials and alternating plain and splat balusters; panelled ceiling. Glazed screen to library entrance with pilastered mullions and moulded transoms arched over the doorways. The libraries are light from above, have wall pilasters and cornices, and the office has a pilastered wooden chimneypiece with cornices.
