Canal boatyard warehouse, now workshop and offices. Early to
mid C19; altered and enlarged. Coursed squared sandstone with
quoins, stone slate roof. Rectangular plan on east-west axis,
with c1900 brick addition to right now linking it to a
contemporary ancillary building which forms a west wing.
2 storeys and 3 bays (2:1:2 windows), symmetrical; with a
full-height segmental-headed wagon doorway in the centre, with
rock-faced surround and voussoirs, altered so as to make a
similarly-shaped ground-floor doorway, the upper portion
filled by a wooden and glazed screen with a doorway and a
cast-iron balcony on wooden brackets; four 36-pane fixed
windows at ground floor and four 25-pane fixed windows at 1st
floor, all with chisel-dressed raised sills and lintels; and
gable copings with kneelers, plus a chimney at the right-hand
gable. Brick addition to right; and stone gabled wing to right
of this.
Rear has 1:2 windows at 1st floor with a loft doorway between,
the former window to the left of this altered as a 2nd
doorway, and the original external stone steps enlarged to
make a double flight; two 25-pane windows to the right at
ground floor (former windows to left blocked), and three
16-pane windows above.
INTERIOR not inspected.
HISTORY: associated with former boatyard at Finsley Gate
wharf.
Forms group with former forge to left (qv) and with Finsley
House beyond (qv).
