Lodge at entrance to cemetery. Mid C19. Plymouth limestone
rubble with limestone dressings; dry slate roofs with coped
gable ends; irregularly disposed rubble and dressed stone
lateral and end stacks: one lateral stack with diagonally-set
shaft and one end stack with round shaft. Gothic Revival
style. Irregular plan to resemble 2 attached lodges.
EXTERIOR: single storey, plus attic to part; irregular
buttressed gabled elevations with transomed mullioned windows
with pointed top lights and sunk spandrels. The carriageway
frontage has gable end on the left with canted bay window;
gabled single-light dormer over projecting outshut to right of
this; lateral stack in the angle with projecting gable end on
the right with similar canted bay window. Left-hand return is
entrance front with gable over 2-light window and porch on the
right with 2-centred arched doorway and original pair of
planked doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be as unaltered as the
very complete exterior.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: low rubble walls attached to forecourt of
lodge with 2 squat gate-piers and linked to cemetery entrance
gateway with dressed limestone piers and terminal with
cruciform gabled caps and curved plinths between surmounted by
wrought and cast-iron railings with turned bases and finials.
