Canal lift bridge. Probably circa 1800-6 [with later repairs],
by William Jessop and Thomas Telford who designed the
Llangollen [Ellesmere] Canal, on the Prees branch of which
this bridge is situated. Wooden bascule bridge operated by
counterweight and chain system. The Prees branch was
originally intended to reach Prees Higher Heath but by 1806 it
had only reached Quina Brook, near Edstaston, where it was
decided to terminate it. The Ellesmere Canal Company
amalgamated with the Chester Canal Company in 1813 and became
part of the Shropshire Union in 1846.
