The name 'Dukes' is recorded in a law court case dated 1499 concerning, presumably,
this house which still bears the name. A timber-framed house built on a 'T' shaped
plan with the main block extending north and south. A floor was inserted in the
main block circa 1600. The south front, with 3 gables, has modern external
features. The centre gable is of the early C17 and the east gable is later. The
west end has exposed timber-framing on a high brick plinth. 2 storeys. 3 window
range on the south front, C20 casements. Roof tiled (old tiles), with a central
rectangular chimney stack at the west end of the main block and 1 sloping-roofed
dormer between the gables to the main block. The interior has exposed timber-
framing, ceiling beams and joists. Central longitudinal main beams extend the
full length of both the main block and cross wing.
