Canal road bridge. Circa 1766-72 by James Brindley, Surveyor General. Red brick with stone coping and quoins. Single span with towpath and humped back. Integral with adjoining lock. Segmental headed arch. Swept wings terminating in piers at all 4 corners. Stone plaque at crown on both sides. Cast iron guard plate to north towpath side jamb. Minor repairs include replacement of top course of bricks. The Trent and Mersey Canal was built between 1766 and 1777 by James
Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
