Founded 1602 rebuilt 1832, R H Sharp architect. 3 storey ashlar block in fine
restrained classical style. 5 windows, the centre 3 in broad projection. Plinth,
1st and 2nd floor sill courses and moulded projecting eaves cornice. The 2nd
floor of central projection has full width panel with carved dates, name and
central relief of a "nef". Recessed sash windows, glazing bars intact in architrave
surrounds, plain raised edge surrounds to those on ground floor, The centre
1st floor window is emphasised by flanking panelled strips with console brackets
over to cornice projecting from 2nd floor sill course. The central entrance
below has similar surround though the console brackets do not have leaf mould
at their base. Double 6 panel door with rectangular fanlight. The line of centre
block is continued in frontof recessed end bays by spear head cast iron railings.
Moulded lead rainwater head and pipe with casts of anchors decorating it. The
interior retains 1st floorboard room with piers with attached pilasters supporting
entablature to coved ceiling with central pattera.
All the listed buildings on the South Side from Nos 21 to 31 (odd) including
Trinity House, form a group.
